Individuals are appointed to 2-year internships and become eligible for permanent positions within the agency upon successful completion of the program. The Department of Commerce has developed a pilot professional development internship program for college graduates interested in pursuing a career in accounting. This 2-year program is designed to recruit approximately 25 highly-qualified individuals to fill approximately 25 accounting positions at grade levels GS-5, 7, and 9, and to prepare them for federal careers in analyzing and implementing public programs. Individuals selected for internships will be appointed to accounting positions under the Schedule B Authority of the excepted service. Upon successful completion of the internship, the interns will be eligible for permanent placement within the agency. This program will be conducted during the period of January 10, 2005 through January 10, 2007.
